Thankful for God’s provision, His promises, and the gift of family and community.

Our first mission trip to the Limpopo region of South Africa in 2016 changed our lives. It opened our hearts to being “goers” and living missionally.

The same weekend the first East Loop alignments were released in Brazos County, Beverly and I were at a missions conference preparing to serve as co-vocational missionaries.

Life takes unexpected turns, but we are grateful for every step the Lord has led us through. Honored to serve Brazos County today and always.

Thank you to @bvgives for the incredible work you do to support local nonprofits and strengthen our community.

Blessed to give to St. Vincent de Paul BCS, one of the oldest participating groups in Brazos Valley Gives.

Their purpose is extremely meaningful to Bev and I as mission work is near and dear to our hearts.

Special morning serving alongside Beverly, Grace, and many others at the Rotary Club of Aggieland’s Thanksgiving Basket Project.

Community is built when we put our hands and hearts to work together.

Thank you to the BCS MPO Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for allowing me to attend today’s Major Thoroughfare Concept Workshop and offer feedback. The committee welcomes and encourages public involvement, and I appreciate their openness and transparency.

I suggested a small wording change to include Brazos County, along with the cities of Bryan and College Station, directly in the draft policy for updating the Major Thoroughfare Concept. This generated a good discussion by the committee that all residents of Brazos County, to include other municipalities such as Kurten and Wixon Valley, should have a seat at the table. Clarity like this helps protect our residents and ensures our county is fully represented in future transportation planning.

Good governance happens when people work together, listen, and stay engaged. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and to support responsible progress for Precinct 2 and all of Brazos County.

We must never forget that lesson we learned: Citizenship Requires Participation.

There has been a lot of conversation about the vendor involved in the Inner East Loop project. Many people, including me, have raised concerns about the contract and the way the work has been handled.

But here is the part of the discussion that many folks do not see.

Three other major projects are also tied to this same contract structure:
• Leonard Road
• RELLIS
• Harvey Road

If Brazos County delays these projects or disrupts the contract, those engineering firms have the right to suspend their work or even walk away completely. That is written directly into the same type of contract that caused problems with the Inner East Loop.

If that happened, the county would be left with unfinished projects and less TRIP Bond money. Another vendor cannot simply pick up someone else’s half-completed engineering design. We would be starting over, losing time and money.

There are only two realistic alternatives:
1. The county could take over the work internally, but our program manager is already carrying a heavy workload and the county is still trying to hire help.
2. We could bring in a new vendor, but that would take time, create delays, and put us at risk of contract termination.

Because of that, continuing the current contract for a limited time is the only option that avoids more risk, more cost, and more unfinished projects.

That is why I supported the county’s strategy. I do not want us to lose more money or more time on critical road projects that our community needs.

As I said yesterday, “I see the wisdom in not relieving a commander in the midst of battle. My concern is the disruption this may cause the contractors who are doing the work, and the potential delays and added expense to the county. For that reason, I support a limited extension to allow the work to be completed and finish the contract that is already in place.”

This is not about defending a flawed vendor.
This is about protecting taxpayers, keeping critical projects moving, and making sure Precinct 2 does not fall further behind.

It has been a full week here in Brazos County with plenty of opportunities to connect, learn, and give thanks.

I finished the day yesterday at the Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Park, a moving reminder of the service and sacrifice that make our freedoms possible.

Earlier in the afternoon, I was with the Brazos County A&M Club for an inspiring luncheon featuring Dr. Robert Ambrose and the incredible work happening at the Texas A&M Space Institute. Aggie innovation continues to reach new heights.

Monday evening brought the BCS Chamber Annual Banquet, a chance to celebrate the people and businesses working hard for our region.

Grateful for this community and the people who make it strong.
